The reboiler in a distillation tower is a major energy consumer; it is usually heated using steam, with consumption ranging from 3 to 5 tons of steam per hour in some cases, to dozens of tons per hour in others. However, since the light components at the top of the tower have already been separated from the tower in gaseous form, they still need to be cooled and condensed using condensers such as air-cooled, water-cooled, or salt-cooled systems. The bottom of the tower requires heating from a high-quality heat source, while the top needs to release low-grade heat. If the low-grade heat released at the top is warmed up using waste heat recovery technology and then returned to the bottom of the tower to heat the reboiler, it would reduce the reboiler’s reliance on the original heat source (steam), thereby saving a significant amount in production costs.
