Polymerized formaldehyde can be mixed with an alkaline solution and hot water, the temperature being maintained above 120°C, with stirring or liquid circulation, and the pH kept at 7. The depolymerization of the polymeric material in the absorption tower of this device is carried out using this untreated method; due to operational constraints, it is not possible to conduct operations on a large scale with solid formaldehyde blocks, but depolymerization can still be achieved using smaller samples for experiments.
