When the process material pump in a calcium carbide-based vinyl chloride plant is taken out for maintenance, there are several possible ways to remove the material accumulated in the pump and pipelines: 1) A dedicated drainage collection tank (an underground tank) is used, with fixed pipelines connecting the drainage valve to the collection tank, thereby allowing the accumulated material to be removed in a sealed manner; 2) A dedicated drainage collection tank (underground tank) is provided; a temporary pipeline is connected between the drainage valve and the collection tank to securely drain the accumulated material ; 3) Temporarily use mobile collection tanks and connecting hoses to collect and drain the material ; 4) Temporarily connect the gas-phase exhaust pipeline to low-pressure systems such as gas holders, so that the accumulated material can be vaporized and then discharged and recovered ; 5) The accumulated materials are directly discharged into the gutter. Let’s discuss which method is currently primarily used in these devices; are there any simpler and more reasonable approaches besides those mentioned above?
Procedure: Depending on the frequency of inspections and repairs, it is best to use a gas recovery tank (for installation) in cases where repairs are carried out frequently; however, it is necessary to control the flow rate and the amount of gas recovered to prevent ice buildup in the pipelines; It is not done frequently; valves and quick connectors are installed on the pipelines of the recovery gas tank. In the workshop, a dedicated drainage collection tank is used for collection, and then the liquid is connected to the quick connector to be sent back to the recovery gas tank.

The first-phase pump did not have a recovery pipeline; to repair it, it was necessary to empty it. In the second phase, we added a recovery pipeline that allows the fluid to be sent back to the gas holder.
