At around 17:16 on March 30, 2017, an acrylic pump located in the spherical tank of Unit 1 for ethylene production at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical’s olefins plant caught fire. Following the accident, the company immediately activated its emergency response plan and brought the equipment to a stop. At present, city and park officials are coordinating with personnel from fire departments, public security agencies, safety supervision offices, and environmental protection departments to carry out emergency rescue efforts. The fire is under control, and no casualties have resulted from the accident. Further updates to be reported. Thanks to the intensive efforts of the firefighters, the open flames at the accident site of the Olefins Plant at Yangzi Petrochemical were extinguished at 20:45. It has been confirmed that the accident did not result in any casualties. All fire-fighting water has been collected in the company’s accident pond; atmospheric conditions are normal, and relevant follow-up actions are underway.
