It doesn’t matter; we are targeting the center line, not the outer circle. To correct the issue mentioned above: the outer circles need not be of the same size. Moreover, due to corrosion and erosion, they may not be perfect circles either. But as long as the key principles of alignment are understood, it is still possible to achieve alignment even if the wheels are elliptical in shape. Therefore, it has nothing to do with the different sizes of the two axes involved in alignment, nor with whether the wheels are of the same size, and it’s also unrelated to whether the wheels are round.

The size of the motor has no impact on finding a concentric pump shaft. The outer circle has suffered from corrosion and erosion; it may not be a perfect circle, so it’s not possible to find four or eight symmetric points to determine the concentric values.

As a supplementary point, the clearance of some bearings also affects adjustment, especially in the case of sliding bearings (bushings). An error occurs after rotating it in either direction.
