In the attachment, there are two drain pipes in front of the check valve and two drain pipes behind it; it seems that the latter two drain pipes aren’t large enough for transporting liquids.
Below the check valve is for exhaust, and above the check valve is for liquid discharge
It is used to empty the pump during shutdown for maintenance, facilitating disassembly and assembly after the material has been drained.
The valve at the top is necessary, used when servicing the pump. The lower one can actually be omitted; it’s generally not needed. Even if exhaust is required, the pressure gauge can be removed:P
It’s too troublesome to remove the pressure gauge; the one below the pressure gauge can be used for venting, while the one above the check valve can be used for sampling and similar purposes.
