Nitrile rubber is produced by the emulsion polymerization of butadiene and acrylonitrile. It is mainly manufactured using low-temperature emulsion polymerization methods, and it boasts excellent oil resistance, high wear resistance, good heat resistance, and strong adhesion. Its disadvantages are poor low-temperature resistance, poor ozone resistance, poor insulation properties, and slightly low elasticity. Nitrile rubber is mainly used to manufacture oil-resistant rubber products. Abbreviated as NBR, it is a synthetic rubber produced by the copolymerization of butadiene and acrylonitrile. It is a synthetic rubber with good oil resistance (especially to alkane oils) and aging resistance. The acrylonitrile content (%) in nitrile rubber comes in five levels: 42–46, 36–41, 31–35, 25–30, and 18–24. The higher the acrylonitrile content, the better the oil resistance, but the cold resistance decreases accordingly. It can be used for extended periods in air at 120°C or in oil at 150°C. In addition, it also has good water resistance, airtightness, and excellent bonding properties. It is widely used in the production of various oil-resistant rubber products, as well as various oil-resistant washers, gaskets, sleeves, flexible packaging, soft hoses, printing and dyeing rubber rollers, and cable sealing materials. It has become an essential elastic material in industries such as automotive, aviation, petroleum, and photocopying.
