There’s a newly opened pump inlet; I don’t know what it’s for, I’ve never seen it before

Liquid rotation at this point is also known as inlet pre-rotation, and it can lead to: 1) a rotational velocity that results in reduced inlet pressure, thereby increasing the risk of cavitation in the pump; 2) a decrease in the pump’s head. This can be seen from the theoretical formula for head (entering the formula is complicated, so please refer to relevant literature). To prevent pre-rotation, a baffle with a structure no smaller than the radius is required to block the pre-rotation of the liquid caused by the rotation of the impeller or the pipeline. This is a common design for the straight-cone inlet of pumps with higher flow rates; it can also be found in the inlets of other types of pump housings, such as the semi-spiral suction chamber of AY pumps. This baffle is not welded to the pump body but is cast directly as part of it.
As a supplementary note, I just thought of this: if this partition is located very close to the impeller nut, it can also prevent the impeller nut from falling off, even when the pump is not running in reverse
