Oil leakage from the bearing housing of the cantilever centrifugal pump

Thread Content

Oil is leaking from the machine side of the centrifugal pump’s bearing housing. The oil return path is not blocked, and the oil return groove has been enlarged as well. I applied some cotton tape, aligned everything properly, and replaced the oil cup. How can this issue be resolved effectively? Please give some advice

I’d like to share a case: deformation of the short tube connecting the oil cup to the bearing housing caused the connection point of the oil cup to be at a higher level than the lowest point of the gap between the bearing housing cover and the pump shaft, which led to continuous oil leakage. Replacing the short tube resolved the issue; I’m not sure if this will be helpful to you

Change to those equipped with bearing isolators or using magnetic oil seals.

I’ve never seen those two types of seals you mentioned. Are there any detailed information available?

Thank you, I’m also suspecting the oil cup – the bevel isn’t level with the liquid surface, which is causing the constant need to top up the oil.

This is one available in Qingdao; Chengdu Shunjie also has it. Some good foreign brands include INPRO SEAL and Parker Hannifin.

1. You need to check whether the clearance between the labyrinth seal and the shaft is appropriate; if the clearance is too large, the labyrinth seal must be remanufactured; 2. Is the breather of the bearing housing unobstructed? ; 3. It’s likely the situation mentioned above – the oil level in the oil cup needs to be adjusted; trying not to change the design is not cost-effective

Check whether the labyrinth seal at the bearing cover is worn; if so, it needs to be replaced; When installing the bearing cover, ensure that the oil return groove is in the 6 o’clock position ; After reinstalling the pump, the oil level must not exceed the lowest point of the labyrinth seal on the bearing cover.

An adjustable constant-level oil cup can be used instead

It’s not a problem with the oil cup; it still leaks even when it’s not in use

The oil level has increased; add oil to the level window in the bearing compartment at 1/2–2/3, and reduce the height of the inclined opening of the oil cup when it is inserted into the oil cup holder
