Hello, everyone! For my project, the circulating water pump required has a pumping height of 18 meters, a flow rate of 180 cubic meters per hour, a pipe diameter of DN150. The inlet pressure of the pump is 0.02 MPa; no specific requirement exists for the outlet pressure. The pipeline from the pump outlet to the delivery point contains 5 90-degree elbows and 3 butterfly valves. 1 plate heat exchanger (pressure drop of 32 KPa). Could someone expert help calculate the head required for the pump? Thank you! Thank you so much!
The head is estimated to be over 30 meters.
One also needs to consider the length of the pipeline and the location of the elbows; for example, an outlet pipe that is 100 meters long is different from one that is 10 meters long; There is a elbow every 5 meters along the outlet pipe, and at the outlet end there are 5 consecutive 90-degree elbows that lead upward – that’s certainly different, right? ; It needs to be considered in conjunction with the specific pipeline configuration. However, with a flow rate of 180 cubic meters and a pipe diameter of 150, the flow velocity reaches 2.8 m/s, which is acceptable; but it’s quite fast. Would using a pipe diameter of 200 with a flow velocity of 1.6 m/s be better? For reference only
The conditions you provided still lack the length of the pipeline before the pump and the length of the pipeline after the pump; it’s not possible to determine anything just by knowing the discharge height of the circulating water. However, under the current conditions, a head of 32m is considered appropriate.
There are no pressure requirements for the pumping point; if it is at atmospheric pressure, a pump head of 30–35 is sufficient.
