I previously encountered a situation where it was impossible to turn the impeller of a recirculation pump during its cranking process. Isolate the pump, relieve pressure, and then it can be easily turned. May I ask why?
If it can be turned easily after pressure is released, then there must be a pressure difference between the inlet and outlet, which makes it difficult to turn it. Also, shouldn’t centrifugal pump and disc pumps be started before opening the inlet and outlet valves? Especially this type of pressure pump.
In production, the pump is rotated with the inlet open and the outlet closed. At the exit valve, there should be no pressure difference at this point! So it seems strange

Generally, machine pumps operate in one while another is on standby. The axial force you mentioned is one of the reasons why the pump cannot be rotated. The problem is that it can be rotated easily after cutting and pressure release; I’m not sure if this situation is caused by axial force, as it doesn’t seem logical

Our lockbox circulation pump is one such unit; there is no backup pump. If it was said by another member, that the outlet valve is leaking internally, one can check the temperature of the pump to see whether it is at normal temperature or close to the temperature of the lockhopper. If the temperature is high, the outlet valve may be leaking internally. Excessive internal leakage in the outlet valve can cause the standby pump to reverse.
