I’ve been conducting fermentation experiments recently; the viscosity of the fermentation broth is 3 MPa. There are cells present in the broth, and it’s an anaerobic fermentation process, so shear forces should be avoided as much as possible. I was wondering if any of you have any good recommendations? The viscosity of the medium is not very high; however, due to the high speed of the centrifugal pump, there is inevitably impact, collision, and shear on the material. It is recommended to use positive displacement pumps with lower speeds, such as diaphragm pumps, rotor pumps, and hose pumps. To determine the most suitable option, more parameters are needed, such as flow rate, pressure, temperature, corrosivity, net positive suction head, as well as the conditions under which the pump will be used.
