This type of mechanical seal does not have a drive ring; the axial position of the shaft sleeve is determined by the steps on the pump shaft. The degree of compression of the bellows depends on the relative positions of the pump shaft steps and the surface of the seal cover. The positioning block serves only as a preliminary positioning element, so it does not constitute a true modular seal, and API682 does not recognize it as such a seal.

However, the compression amount of the bellows did not change after the positioning block was removed, remaining consistent with the value set by the manufacturer. Additionally, the axial position of the machine seal sleeve did not change after installation was completed.
When designing a seal of this type, it is necessary to know the exact axial dimensions.
