How is the mouth ring of ordinary pumps measured, and what are the measurement methods?
The outer diameter is measured with a vernier caliper, while the inner diameter is measured using an inside micrometer, or with an internal caliper and a caliper, or an internal caliper equipped with a meter. Measure several locations to determine whether it is elliptical.
The inner diameter is measured using the ring on the pump casing or guide vanes, while the outer diameter is measured using the ring on the impeller. The difference between these two diameters, divided by 2, gives the one-sided clearance. The exact value can be found in the pump’s maintenance manual; API610 can also be used as a reference. For small pumps or those operating at low temperatures, the one-sided clearance is typically between 0.15 and 0.3 mm; Larger pumps, those that operate at higher temperatures, and pumps for which high precision is not required can have a tolerance of 0.3–0.5 mm; even larger pumps may have a tolerance of over 1 mm. As for the measurement methods, it depends on the specific situation; vernier calipers, calipers, internal diameter micrometers, and the like can all be used, as long as they can provide accurate measurements.
