The liquid ammonia pump I have is equipped with a siphon tank; what is the principle behind this? How is the pump lubricated? Also, why is there pressure in the siphon tank when the pump is not running? Please, experts, tell me
Thermal siphon: hot liquids have a lower density, while cold liquids have a higher density
Hot liquid, with lower density, moves upward, while cold liquid, with higher density, moves downward, creating a circulating flow driven by this difference – a phenomenon known as thermosiphon effect

This is the 52 sealing system, which is commonly used in high-speed pumps. There is no pumping ring inside the seal; the flow of white oil relies on the principle of thermal siphonage, with the hot medium flowing upward and the cold medium flowing downward. Under normal conditions, there is no pressure inside the siphon tank. If the liquid level in the tank rises or the pressure increases, it indicates that there is a leak in the seal on the side where the medium is located; the medium is leaking into the white oil
This is a sealing system solution; it involves observing the tank’s viewports to determine whether there is leakage in the double-end mechanical seal. We have not seen a siphon-type system used here; what we use are pumping rings. As mentioned above, if a mechanical seal does not have pumping rings, then a siphon effect becomes quite obvious.
Our scheme’s sealing system also has a pumping ring; I’m not sure if, as mentioned above, the absence of a pumping ring will result in no flow
