Why are the most expensive hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps widely used, while the other two, although cheaper, are used less often? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Hydraulic diaphragm: leak-free, stable operation
Mechanical diaphragm pumps are the most widely used, primarily in applications such as water treatment under normal conditions. Hydraulic pumps are used in situations requiring high flow rates and high pressures, in the petroleum and petrochemical industries, or for special applications; their usage is not extensive. Plunger pumps are commonly used for applications requiring low flow rates but high pressures; they are prone to leakage and therefore not suitable for use with hazardous chemicals, limiting their application scope. The hydraulic diaphragm medium does not leak, and when pressure builds up, the return flow of hydraulic oil does no work, thereby preventing damage to the pump. The medium in plunger metering pumps can leak; they still operate normally under pressure buildup, and they will fail at the point where it can no longer withstand the stress~ We don’t use mechanical diaphragms here, so no comment on that
These three types of pumps each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and are suitable for specific operating conditions. Users should choose the one that best fits their particular circumstances and economic situation. It’s not the case that hydraulic diaphragm pumps are more widely used than the other two types. In our company’s water treatment systems, low-flow electric diaphragm pumps, which belong to the category of mechanical diaphragm pumps, are used. For systems that require the metering of additives, low-flow and low-pressure applications make single-plunger metering pumps an appropriate choice. For handling corrosive substances such as lye and sulfuric acid, which require high flow rates and pressures, hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps are used.
