Oil mist lubrication makes use of instrument air and a vortex atomization process to turn liquid lubricant into extremely small oil mist particles, which are then continuously and effectively delivered to the bearing housing to provide adequate lubrication for the metal surfaces of the bearings. The oil mist lubrication system mainly consists of an oil mist generation and control unit, oil mist delivery pipelines, a collection chamber, nozzles, and an oil collection tank. The oil mist generation and control main unit is the core of oil mist production and control; it includes a microcomputer-based intelligent processing system, atomization components, a storage tank, delivery equipment, heating devices, and other components. The generation of oil mist is controlled by a microcomputer-based intelligent control system. Instrument air is fed into the main unit, and using the energy of the compressed air, the liquid lubricating oil in the tank is atomized into oil mist particles with sizes of 1–3 microns through a vortex atomization process. These particles then remain suspended in the instrument air, resulting in an oil mist stream with an oil content of only 5 parts per million (5 ppm). The oil mist flow is maintained at a slight positive pressure of 0.05–0.1 bar; it passes through the main pipe and downcomer before being delivered to the remote pump units. From there, it is precisely distributed to the lubrication points via oil mist collection chambers and nozzles, thereby providing adequate lubrication for the bearings.
