What is mentioned here is the net positive suction head available for the device (also known as effective NPSHA; the higher this value, the better). The net positive suction head required by the pump is also referred to as necessary NPSH, and the lower this value, the better). This value decreases as the flow rate increases, and the intersection point of this curve with the pump’s performance curve represents the operating point of the pump.
