The boiler feed water pump is constantly leaking at the seal (shaft seal). Different manufacturers’ seals have been tried, as well as mechanical seals and packing seals, but none of them work. Multiple construction sites and multiple manufacturers all fail to solve this problem. The pressure in the boiler drum is 0.7–1.0 MPa; centrifugal multi-stage pumps are used, with a head of generally 130–150 meters. The water temperature (in the deaeration tank) does not exceed 100 degrees, and is usually below 80 degrees. I would like to ask the experts in the boiler industry and industrial pumps: where do they use pumps, and why do feedwater pumps always suffer from seal damage?
A Grundfoss or Sullair diaphragm pump will do; they are inexpensive and efficient
In the petrochemical industry, Sulzer and Galileo are commonly chosen for boiler feedwater pumps; For mechanical seals, Bogeman is recommended (Bogeman is used for KSB pumps).
It was originally all horizontal multi-stage centrifugal pumps; may I ask if it is acceptable to choose such vertical feed water pumps? This feed water pump doesn’t require cooling water, right?
A packing seal is definitely unreasonable.

When using a mechanical seal again, what flushing scheme is adopted? What are the materials of the rotating and stationary rings of the seal, and what is the material of the sealing ring? Is there any issue with the selection? During operation, were there any instances of pump cavitation or air erosion?
I’m not sure about the flow rate; a head of 130–150 meters can be achieved with a single-stage pump. The continuous leakage from the mechanical seal is likely due to a problem with the pump itself. I wonder whether the flushing method used is appropriate
