The difference between sewage pumps and clean water pumps: Sewage pumps fall under the category of centrifugal pumps, and their structure and working principle are the same as those of ordinary centrifugal pumps. Sewage pumps also have their own structural characteristics; their head is not high, and due to the large amount of debris in sewage, the clearance between the impeller blades is greater than that in pumps used for clean water. Here we will briefly discuss the differences between these two types of pumps. 1. To prevent clogging, sewage pumps are designed with large flow channels, which naturally results in relatively low efficiency; as a result, their head capacity is generally not high. The flow channel of a clean water pump is smaller, and the clearance is also smaller, resulting in a relatively higher head. 2. To prevent entanglement, the impeller of a sewage pump is designed to be simpler than that of a clean water pump; it lacks a retaining ring but is equipped with serrated blades that can crush debris such as fabric scraps before pumping them out. The impeller of a clean water pump is more complex, but its efficiency is significantly higher than that of the sewage pump. 3. The common faults that can occur in sewage pumps are similar to those of ordinary centrifugal pumps; since they are used for pumping sewage, the impellers wear out more quickly. To prevent wear and corrosion, sewage pumps generally use mechanical seals with good wear resistance and strong corrosion resistance, along with O-rings, as sealing elements. Freshwater pumps, on the other hand, do not require such stringent considerations. Based on the above, it is easy to understand why freshwater pumps cannot be used for sewage handling.
