Reciprocating pumps have been traditionally used widely, but such pumps require preheating, cannot be started or stopped at will, and leakage is inevitable; as a result, they are very inconvenient to use and are bound to be phased out as pumps for industrial use. If it can be ensured that the total power supply for the entire plant consists of two independent power sources, the steam pump can be replaced with an electric pump during the design phase. As for whether to use an electric pump paired with a screw pump or a centrifugal pump, it depends on the specific circumstances. Centrifugal pumps are prone to cavitation, while screw pumps have limitations in terms of flow rate; each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.
