At 10 a.m. on November 6, the groundbreaking ceremony for Yanchang Petroleum Group’s coal-based ethanol project and the launch event for the Yuheng coal-to-aromatics project were held in the Qingshui Industrial Park of the Yushen Industrial Zone. It is understood that the coal-to-ethanol project that is now under construction represents the first phase of the integrated CCSI industrial demonstration project invested in by Yanchang Petroleum, with an annual production capacity of 8 million tons of tar extracted from coal and syngas produced; this marks the entry of the entire CCSI industrial demonstration project into the stage of actual construction. Using West Bay coal as raw material, this project produces 500,000 tons per year of ethanol and a small amount of methanol, with by-products including fusel oil, heavy fractions, sulfur, etc. The total investment in the project is approximately 6.4 billion yuan, with annual operating revenue of 3.051 billion yuan and an annual profit of 1.04 billion yuan. In February 2017, the **Energy Bureau officially issued the ‘13th Five-Year Plan for Demonstrating Advanced Coal Processing Industries’. In terms of the differentiated utilization of low-grade coal, the Yulin CCSI project operated by Yan’an Petroleum, which involves the extraction of coal tar and the production of syngas at a rate of 8 million tons per year, was included among the projects to be demonstrated. This project will undertake various significant demonstration tasks, including industrial-scale demonstrations of CCSI technology on a million-ton scale, industrial-scale demonstrations of coal tar co-processing technology, and demonstrations of integrated oil, chemical, and power production.
The Yuheng coal-to-aromatics project, launched simultaneously, is part of Yanchang Petroleum’s coal-based aromatics industry and related coal mining projects in Yulin, northern Shaanxi. The project under consideration is an MTA industrial demonstration project that uses 1 million tons of methanol as raw material; its main product is mixed aromatics, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons. The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2021. The construction site is located in Plot C17 of the Yulin Yuheng Coal Chemical Industry Zone, adjacent to the Yuheng Railway to the south and the Kaiyue Coal Chemical Methanol Plant to the east, covering an area of 30.36 hectares. Yanchang Petroleum’s 1 million-ton coal-to-aromatics project has been included in Yulin City’s 2018 list of key construction projects and major pre-project initiatives. The total investment in this project is 33 billion yuan, with an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of aromatics and downstream products derived from them.
Chemical Online 0619 16:04 Recently, Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Yulin Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. issued a tender announcement for the environmental impact assessment of the Yuheng project, which aims to produce 400,000 tons of aromatics per year from 1 million tons of methanol. The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2021. It is reported that the Yuheng Coal-to-Aromatics (MTA) (provisional name) project of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Yulin Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. is the initiating project for the integrated coal-to-aromatics and olefins plus associated coal mines project. It is an MTA industrial demonstration project using 1 million tons of methanol as raw material, and is located in Plot C17 of the Yulin Yuheng Coal Chemical Industrial Zone, adjacent to the Yuheng Railway to the south and the Kaiyue Coal Chemical Methanol Plant to the east, covering an area of 30.36 hectares. The main product of this project is mixed aromatics, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons. A production facility centered around a 400,000-ton/year MTA complex, along with utility and auxiliary production facilities, is planned to be fully built and put into operation by 2021.
