Recently, Hainan Refining & Chemical held a ceremony for the erection of the xylene tower. This is currently the largest refining and chemical facility in China, and it falls under the scope of work of Sinopec Fourth Construction Company; its erection was successfully completed by Sinopec Shipping Company.
The xylene tower at Hainan Refining & Chemical is 128 meters tall and weighs 4,093 tons in total. Sinopec Shipping Company adopted a lifting plan based on three-stage loading and unloading. As a key project for Sinopec Shipping Company in 2018, XCMG XGC88000 crawler cranes were used as the main lifting equipment for this construction task. Hainan Refining and Chemical’s aromatic compounds processing facility, especially its 4,000-ton xylene tower, represents the most advanced technology available in this field both domestically and internationally. The process of building this facility has attracted attention from across the global heavy chemical industry. The entire construction and lifting period lasted nearly a month.
On October 12, the middle section of the installation was successfully lifted
On November 5th, at 2 p.m., the upper section of the apparatus was lifted into place, and the entire setup was successfully assembled. It marks the successful completion of a critical phase in the hoisting and alignment work for the largest tower equipment in Hainan Refining & Chemical’s second aromatic unit installation. Given the complexity and importance of this project, Sinopec Shipping Company and Sinopec Fourth Company, as the main responsible parties for lifting and installation respectively, have coordinated closely and organized everything meticulously to ensure that the work is completed on time and to the required standard, without any mistakes. All the employees involved in the project worked together, racing against time, and made every effort to overcome challenges such as heavy workload, tight deadlines, and hot weather. They worked overtime on sunny days, rushed through tasks on cloudy days, and kept working despite rain, all while ensuring construction quality and safety. By doing so, they were able to meet the project milestones for the xylene tower construction. Meanwhile, the use of a 4,000-ton crawler crane to complete the lifting of the new xylene tower using the three-stage method is a first in China, providing successful and mature lifting experience for the construction of aromatic hydrocarbon plants both domestically and internationally.
A tower weighing 4,000 tons is something unimaginable. In the past, designing such separation tower processes required multiple towers to achieve the desired results; today, the scale of production and the available installation equipment enable it to meet the process requirements.
A 128-meter tall tower – so incredibly high! Impressive! Is this project located at Yangpu Port?
Including the connected pipes, valves, and processes, it’s likely a single unit device
How long does it take to manufacture this tower?
