The past decade has been a period of rapid development for China’s chemical industry, marked by the emergence of many new processes, products, and equipment. There has also been significant progress in China’s chemical processing equipment, which has contributed to the swift advancement of the petrochemical sector. Here, we have compiled some of the achievements and breakthroughs made by Chinese equipment manufacturers in terms of larger-scale production and increased use of domestic equipment. We invite everyone to share their insights and discuss these topics together; let’s cheer for Made in China and support the development of chemical processing equipment! *********************************** In June 2019, Lansi Heavy Equipment signed a contract with Fujian Gulei Petrochemical Co., Ltd. for the design and manufacture of the dehydrogenation reactor for the 600,000 tons per year styrene production unit in the Gulei integrated refining and chemical project in Zhangzhou, Fujian. Fujian Gulei’s 600,000 tons per year styrene plant is the largest of its kind within Sinopec’s industry, integrating Badger Company’s proprietary EBMax technology and styrene production technologies. There are two such styrene dehydrogenation reactors: the first dehydrogenation reactor has dimensions of φ4600X10/14/16x24950 mm, while the second dehydrogenation reactor has dimensions of φ5100x18/22/30/38/45/52/60x27300 mm. The main material used for both reactors is SA-304H, and they represent the core equipment in this facility. The equipment has a large diameter, operates at high temperatures, features a complex internal structure, requires high technical standards, and uses materials with unique properties, making its design and manufacture challenging. Lanshi Heavy Equipment attached great importance to this project, established a project team, and conducted numerous discussions and evaluations at various stages including design analysis, process development, processing and manufacturing, as well as testing and acceptance, to ensure the smooth design and manufacture of the styrene dehydrogenation reactor. At present, the preliminary preparatory work such as equipment drawing design and material procurement is being carried out in an orderly manner.
Lanshi is an established enterprise that has developed many domestically produced equipment

Guangdong Petrochemical’s 800,000 tons per year styrene plant is the largest monomer plant in the world to date; it constitutes an important part of the material balance in the ethylene plant, and it supplies raw materials for downstream ABS plants. The timely installation of the two super-large reactors laid the foundation for the timely handover of the styrene plant. The two dehydrogenation reactors are 41 meters and 38 meters tall respectively, weighing 322 tons and 596 tons; they are the largest styrene dehydrogenation reactors in the world. Due to space constraints at the construction site, the First Chemical Production Department of Guangdong Petrochemical Company coordinated with various relevant parties to hold several special meetings. By adopting a dynamic construction approach, and without disrupting the construction of other equipment, the 1,600-ton crane was used for lifting the main part while the 400-ton crane was used to lift the rear section; the main and auxiliary cranes were moved twice to ensure the successful lifting of both reactors.
The 800,000-ton/year styrene plant of Sinopec Guangdong Petrochemical’s integrated refining and chemical processing project, located in Huilei County, Jieyang City, is currently the largest styrene plant of its kind in the world. Recently, the cargo ship \"Jingrun 77\", equipped with the first dehydrogenation reactor and the second dehydrogenation reactor, successfully berthed at the heavy-lift berth of the Guangdong Petrochemical Products Terminal. The second dehydrogenation reactor is the largest reactor in a styrene production facility in the world. The two reactors were designed by CNPC Northeast Refining & Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and manufactured by Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. During the equipment manufacturing process, Guangdong Petrochemical Company closely monitored the progress of production and coordinated with the manufacturing units to accelerate work efforts. By overcoming various challenges such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the equipment was delivered to the construction site of the Guangdong Petrochemical project on time.
