A “steel giant” equivalent to 15 floors high set sail, with whistles sounding, from the river toward the sea. This is the scene of the Sanxia Rudong Sea HVDC converter station setting off from the Yangtze River bank in Nantong, Jiangsu; 3 days later, the \"steel giant\" arrived in the Yellow Sea area for installation. 10 days later, the installation was completed. The Sanxia Rudong Sea Converter Station has a floor area comparable to that of a standard football field, a height equivalent to that of a 15-story building, and a weight roughly equal to that of 10 Xiangshui offshore boost stations – it is truly a massive structure. Since the largest crane ships in the world today have a lifting capacity of 12,000 tons, the traditional floating crane installation method is not sufficient to handle the lifting requirements of around 22,000 tons for this converter station. Therefore, China Three Gorges Corporation brought together all the participating units to form a project team, and innovatively adopted the floating installation method for the construction of the offshore converter station (hereinafter referred to as floating installation). Lun Canzhang, the technical manager for floating installation of offshore converter stations, told a reporter from Science and Technology Daily that floating installation consists of two phases: construction on land and installation at sea. During the land construction phase, a deck support frame (DSF) is used to lift the upper modules ; During the offshore installation phase, the upper modules are lowered onto the jacket using barges for ballasting; in this process, the pile leg coupling cushioning unit (LMU) is used to absorb the impact forces between the modules and the jacket, thereby completing the installation.
