The construction of the project at Shanghai Jinshan Baling New Materials Co., Ltd., which aims to produce 250,000 tons per year of styrene-based thermoplastic elastomers (thermoplastic rubbers), has begun. This project is one of Shanghai’s key industrial projects for 2022; the total investment planned is 3.27 billion yuan, with completion and operation expected in the second half of 2023. The main entity responsible for this project is Shanghai Jinshan Baling New Materials Co., Ltd., a joint venture established by Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical and Baling Petrochemical. The project is being built in Jinshan District, Shanghai, where Shanghai Petrochemical is located. This approach allows for the full utilization of Shanghai Petrochemical’s resource advantages; by leveraging its capabilities in raw material supply, shared utility services, joint environmental protection measures, and coordinated regional services, the overall efficiency of the industrial chain can be improved. On the other hand, the market advantages of the East China region can be fully utilized. This joint venture project utilizes the green and environmentally friendly thermoplastic rubbers SBS, SEBS, and SIS production technologies owned by Baling Petrochemical, to build a facility with an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons of such thermoplastic rubbers – including 140,000 tons of SBS per year, 50,000 tons of SEBS per year, and 60,000 tons of SIS per year. Completion and commissioning of the facility are expected in the second half of 2023.
