On May 6, Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd. released the results of the bidding process for the hydrogen production equipment used in the Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Kuche Green Hydrogen demonstration project; Jingli, Longi Hydrogen Energy, and CSIC 718 Institute were the successful candidates. The results of the bid evaluation have been made public; Jingli, Longi Hydrogen Energy, and CSIC 718 Institute have successfully made it into the shortlist. The Xinjiang Kuqa green hydrogen demonstration project was officially launched on November 30, 2021. It covers an area of about 500 mu, with a total investment of 2.962 billion yuan. This project is a key initiative for Sinopec in developing its hydrogen business, and it is also China’s first demonstration project for producing 10,000 tons of photovoltaic green hydrogen per year. It serves as a powerful model for traditional energy companies to undertake a green and low-carbon transformation. It holds great significance for improving the overall quality of development in the green hydrogen industry, supporting economic growth in Xinjiang, and ensuring energy security.
Recently, Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd. released the results of the bidding process for the thyristor rectifiers used in the hydrogen production via water electrolysis phase of the Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen demonstration project. Intellium Corporation succeeded in making it into the shortlist among many competitors; this is another milestone following its success in being selected for the rectifier supply for the 200,000-kilowatt new energy hydrogen production project in Damao Banner, Inner Mongolia, just within a month. Public information shows that the Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project of Sinopec Xinxing Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd. officially began construction on November 30, 2021. It is the largest photovoltaic green hydrogen production project under construction in the world, with a total investment of nearly 3 billion yuan. The project comprises five main components: photovoltaic power generation, power transmission and distribution, water electrolysis for hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, and hydrogen transportation. The project will include a new photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 300 megawatts and an annual power generation output of 618 million kWh, a hydrogen production facility capable of producing 20,000 tons of hydrogen per year, hydrogen storage tanks with a capacity of around 210,000 cubic meters, hydrogen transport pipelines with a transport capacity of 28,000 cubic meters per hour, as well as related power transmission and distribution facilities. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in June 2023, with the green hydrogen produced being supplied to Sinopec’s Tahe Refining & Chemical Complex to replace hydrogen produced from existing natural gas-based fossil fuels. Once the project is operational, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tons per year. It will contribute 130 million yuan to the local GDP on an annual basis and generate over 18 million yuan in taxes.
All major equipment and mechanical components, as well as key materials, will be domestically produced. In particular, the photovoltaic modules used in the project, the electrolyzers that serve as the \"heart\" of hydrogen production through water electrolysis, hydrogen storage tanks, hydrogen transmission pipelines, and other such major equipment and materials will all be manufactured domestically, which is of great significance for promoting the rapid development of the domestic hydrogen production equipment industry.
