On May 7, 2025, the coal-to-hydrogen ammonia synthesis unit of Guangxi Hengyi New Materials Co., Ltd.’s integrated production project for 1.2 million tons per year of caprolactam and polyamide, which was completed on schedule and to high standards, underwent a completion ceremony; this marked the official transition of the project from the construction phase to the preparation stage for operation. Recently, new progress has been made in the construction of the 1.2 million tons per year caprolactam–polyamide integrated production facility at Guangxi Hengyi New Materials; the project has now entered the final stage of the \"three inspections and four determinations\" process. As a key project in Guangxi aimed at developing the green chemical and new material industry, this project is of great significance for Qinzhou to extend its petrochemical industry chain and establish a new industrial framework based on \"one drop of oil and two types of fibers\". The ammonia synthesis plant began operations on March 26, 2023; the main structure of the gasification unit was completed on September 12, 2024, and the shift scrubber tower was successfully lifted for the first time on April 9, 2024. It took 2 months to complete all the tasks related to lifting large components at the site, while it took 4 months to weld a total of 47.8 million welds, with a welding qualification rate of 98.8%. These were all key milestones achieved throughout the project. The integrated hexamethylene imine-polyamide production facility with an annual output of 1.2 million tons, as well as the associated coal-based hydrogen production and ammonia synthesis units at Guangxi Hengyi New Materials Co., Ltd., utilize two SpaceMai semi-waste boiler gasifiers to produce 100,000 m3/h of hydrogen and 200,000 tons per year of ammonia.
On May 4, 2024, the steel structure modules for sections 56–63 of the gasification unit in the coal-to-hydrogen ammonia synthesis plant, as part of the 1.2 million tons per year caprolactam-polyamide integrated production project carried out by Sinochem Second Construction Group’s Southwest Branch for Guangxi Hengyi New Materials Co., Ltd., were successfully lifted into place. This lifting operation represents another major milestone following the lifting of the gasifier in the project’s gasification unit, and it creates the conditions for the orderly installation of the subsequent process pipelines. The total installation height of the steel structure for the gasification unit is 90 meters. The lifting operation in this case involves two layers of steel structure at heights of 56–63 meters; these are divided into three modules, with each module measuring 10 meters by 20 meters. The heaviest module weighs 265 tons, while the total weight to be lifted is 545 tons. The lifting machinery consists of a 4,000-ton crawler crane coupled with a 1,700-ton jib crane; the operational radii of the three modules are different, which requires frequent changes in the lifting conditions. The preparation process is complex, and the modular structure must be welded together with 43-meter high box-shaped columns, making high-altitude assembly difficult. It is understood that through careful organization by the project team, optimization of plans, and scientific construction methods, all module lifting and alignment tasks were successfully completed within 4 days.
