Recently, the project for producing high-purity hydrogen from LNG hydrogen-enriched exhaust gas at Shanxi Fuyu Coking Co., Ltd. was approved for implementation. This project is a supporting initiative for the 1.25 million tons per year coking oven upgrade project; it makes use of 6.25-meter-high rammed coking ovens and an LNG production facility capable of processing 40,000 Nm³/h of coking oven gas, in order to purify the hydrogen-rich exhaust gases generated during LNG production into high-purity hydrogen suitable for use in fuel cells. The total investment amounts to 1.398 billion yuan, of which approximately 348.8 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection initiatives. The project is designed to produce 4,000 tons of hydrogen per year. The output is primarily supplied to hydrogen refueling stations for heavy trucks in Lüliang (to meet the fuel needs of 200 such trucks), as well as for industrial use within the industrial parks. This initiative is in line with Shanxi Province’s policy on the large-scale utilization of hydrogen produced as a by-product of the coking industry, as well as Lüliang City’s plans for developing its hydrogen industry. The project entered into a cooperation agreement with Lüliang Lanqi Energy in September 2024; the approval process was completed swiftly in August 2025, with the aim of finishing the main construction work within that same year. The long-term plan is to increase the annual production capacity of high-purity hydrogen to 10,000 tons, and to explore a mixed supply model of \"green hydrogen + gray hydrogen\". Once in operation, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80,000 tons per year, generating approximately 50 million yuan in tax revenue annually.
