On April 20, news came from the construction site of the second phase of Yulin Chemical’s 15 million tons per year demonstration project for the clean and efficient conversion of coal into various products, operated by Shaanxi Coal Group: the first controllably heat-transferring converter unit in the purification system was successfully installed in place. This is another key advancement for the core equipment cluster of this project, following the lifting of the first gasification furnace. The purification unit of the world’s largest coal chemical project under construction has thus officially entered the peak phase of equipment installation. The controllably heat-transferred shift reactor lifted this time is the core equipment of the shift unit. Its task is to carry out CO conversion on the raw gas produced by the gasifier, adjust the hydrogen-to-carbon ratio, and prepare for subsequent production. This device utilizes the DX-V type controllable heat transfer conversion technology developed by Nanjing Dunxian Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. This technology is characterized by a high CO conversion rate, uniform bed temperature, and a long catalyst service life. On the day of lifting, a dust storm struck the site; the construction team employed a coordinated approach, using an 800-ton crawler crane for the main lifting operation and a 260-ton crawler crane to assist, enabling precise traction and the safe placement of the equipment on the frame foundation in just one attempt. With core equipment such as the converter being installed one after another, the project has fully entered the equipment installation rush phase, laying the foundation for subsequent pipeline installation and system integration testing. Nanjing Dunxian’s expertise in this technology has been built up over many years. The company has previously successfully supplied 6 high-pressure 6.5 Mpa powder coal gasification isothermal shift reactors for Inner Mongolia Baofeng’s 4 million tons per year coal-to-olefins project. These proven project experiences provided support for the successful implementation of the 4 isothermal shift reactors in Yulin Chemical’s Phase II project. As the patent holder of isothermal conversion technologies for coal chemical industry, Nanjing Dunxian holds a prominent position in terms of market share and technical expertise in this field. The company has successfully delivered a total of 116 isothermal conversion units and over 200 isothermal conversion furnaces, having accumulated extensive operational experience in large-scale coal chemical projects. From a longer-term perspective, Nanjing Dunxian’s DX-V type controllable heat transfer conversion furnace has already been tested in practice within the industry. This model of equipment has been operating steadily at the world’s largest single methanol plant – Ningxia Baofeng Energy’s 2.2 million tons per year methanol facility – for over 1,280 days, and its reliability and technical maturity continue to be proven. Beyond the traditional coal chemical industry, Nanjing Dunxian’s technological reach is also expanding. The company has successively signed several green energy projects, including the 839,100-ton gas and green energy project in Zhejiang Haichang, the 500,000-ton green methanol project by Goldwind Green Energy, and the 100,000-ton biomass green methanol project in Tianjin Saihong. This shows that isothermal transformation technology is applicable not only to the coal chemical industry but also in emerging energy fields such as green hydrogen and green methanol. Returning to the Yulin chemical project itself. The project is planned to achieve the clean and efficient conversion of 15 million tons of coal per year into various products. The total investment for the first phase of Phase II is estimated at around 62 billion yuan, with a total land area of approximately 9,200 mu. In a project of this scale, the technical selection of core equipment is extremely crucial. If there is a problem with the converter, the entire production chain will be affected. The fact that Dunxian’s equipment from Nanjing was able to be used in this project indicates that the reliability of its technology in large-scale installations has been recognized. At present, Nanjing Dunxian’s isothermal shift reactors have accumulated mature experience in the field of high-pressure pulverized coal gasification at 6.5 Mpa, and have solved the problem of long-term stable operation under conditions of high CO levels and a low water-gas ratio in gasification processes. With the advancement of mega-projects such as Yulin Chemical, China’s core equipment for coal chemical processing is moving from following others to taking the lead.
