Its coal is characterized by low sulfur, low phosphorus, low ash content, and high calorific value; the tar yield is over 10%, with peaks reaching 19%. It is a rare type of coal rich in oil both in China and around the world, making it an ideal raw material for advanced coal processing projects. The operation of the pilot plant will mark a crucial turning point in the transformation of coal resource development in Yiwu County. “Under traditional processes, the extraction rate of coal tar is only 8%, whereas hydrogenation pyrolysis units increase this rate to 12%-15% by optimizing key parameters such as temperature, pressure, and gas composition. ”Yang Bingfeng said that this significant improvement not only greatly increased the recovery rate of coal tar from oil-rich coal, but also led to a qualitative leap in resource utilization efficiency, providing strong support for the transformation of local coal resources from extensive exploitation to high-value utilization. This project was jointly developed by the Yiwu County Government, Xinjiang University, and Xinjiang Xuandong Energy Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 238 million yuan.
