Recently, the main structures of the 4 crude oil storage tanks with a capacity of 150,000 cubic meters for the Caofeidian crude oil storage and transportation project, constructed by China National Chemical Engineering Corporation No. 10 Construction Co., Ltd., have all been installed. This marks an important milestone in the project construction, laying a solid foundation for the further progress of the work. The 150,000 cubic meter crude oil storage tank constructed this time is currently the largest in terms of volume among such tanks in China. Its structure is built using steel plates of various grades, with the thickest wall plate reaching 42 millimeters in thickness; this structural design significantly enhances the overall strength and safety of the tank. Since the start of panel installation on December 8, 2025, the project team efficiently completed the installation of a total of 36 rounds of panels on all 4 storage tanks in just 34 days. During the construction period, the team coordinated resources scientifically and optimized the construction process, enabling orderly sequential and simultaneous progress of various tasks such as prefabrication, lifting, assembly, and welding. This not only significantly shortened the project timeline but also improved the utilization rate of large-scale machinery, thus effectively achieving cost reduction and efficiency gains. To address the welding challenges associated with 42-mm-thick plates in the bottom ring wall panels, the project team implemented a series of process measures such as pre-welding heating, inter-pass temperature control, wire energy management, hydrogen removal treatments, and post-weld heat retention. Additionally, deformation prevention techniques such as symmetrical welding and segmented skip welding were employed to effectively control welding stresses and deformations, ensuring the stable and reliable quality of welding for these thick plates.
