500,000 tons of green methanol, 100 electrolyzers! SunHydrogen’s 5 billion yuan green hydrogen project approved for registration

Recent information released by the Online Approval Service Hall for Investment Projects in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region shows that the industrial project registration (for development and reform purposes) for the Chifeng Tianji Songshan District integrated wind and solar hydrogen production project (the hydrogen and alcohol production section) has been approved. The project is located in Songshan District, Chifeng City, with a total investment of 5 billion yuan. Of this amount, 1.5 billion yuan comes from own funds, while 3.5 billion yuan will be obtained through bank loans. The entity responsible for the project is Chifeng Tianji New Energy Co., Ltd. The project covers an area of approximately 1,150 mu. Its main construction scope and components include installing 100 electrolyzers with a hydrogen production capacity of 1,000 Nm³/h, as well as 40 hydrogen storage tanks with a capacity of 2,000 m³ each; the total annual hydrogen production capacity will be 40,500 tons. Additionally, a methanol production line with an annual output of 500,000 tons along with associated facilities will be built. The project is to be constructed in two phases. In the first phase, it is planned to install 30 electrolyzers with a hydrogen production capacity of 1,000 Nm³ each, as well as 12 hydrogen storage tanks with a capacity of 2,000 m³ each; the design pressure for these tanks is 1.6 MPaG, and the annual hydrogen production capacity will be 12,200 tons ； Phase 2 involves the installation of 70 electrolyzers of the same capacity, along with 28 hydrogen storage tanks of the same size, resulting in an annual hydrogen production capacity of 28,300 tons. The capacity of Phase 1 for green methanol is 150,000 tons per year, while the capacity of Phase 2 is 350,000 tons per year. The project primarily uses hydrogen produced by water electrolysis and carbon-containing gases generated from biomass gasification to synthesize methanol, with a planned construction period from May 2026 to August 2028. According to Qichacha, Chifeng Tianji New Energy Co., Ltd. was established in October 2024, with a registered capital of 1 million yuan. Shareholding analysis reveals that the actual controller of the company is Trina Solar (SH: 688599).
