Shanxi International Energy’s 700,000-ton green ammonia project launched in Inner Mongolia

On January 26, 20026, the integrated project for producing ammonia and alcohols from green hydrogen in Dolun County, Gemeng, Xilin Gol, operated by Inner Mongolia Gemeng Nuojin Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., was registered. The project is located in Dolun County, Xilin Gol League, within the Dolun County Economic Development Zone of Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia, with a total investment of 10.9 billion yuan. The project mainly involves the construction of a hydrogen production facility with an annual capacity of 131,700 tons, which will be used to produce 696,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 176,700 tons of methanol per year, using green hydrogen. The total construction area is approximately 421,110.64 m2. The project will be constructed in phases: Phase 1 will involve the production of 62,200 tons per year of green hydrogen and 348,000 tons per year of synthetic ammonia. It will include 148 alkaline electrolyzers with a capacity of 1,000 Nm³/h each, as well as 72 PEM electrolyzers with a capacity of 250 Nm³/h each. Additional facilities include a comprehensive office building, hydrogen filling stations, demineralization plants, gas boilers, plant-wide flares, a 220 kV main substation, 110 kV substations along with related power distribution equipment, purification plants, circulating water systems, wastewater treatment plants, general warehouses, maintenance workshops, hydrogen production units using electrolysis, green ammonia production units, air separation units, and chemical storage areas ； In the second phase of construction, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 69,500 tons of green hydrogen, 348,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, and 176,700 tons of methanol. It will be equipped with 160 alkaline electrolyzers with a capacity of 1,000 Nm³/h, 80 PEM electrolyzers with a capacity of 250 Nm³/h, as well as 2 gasification furnaces and other auxiliary facilities. Additionally, there will be a 220 kV main substation along with related power distribution equipment, a hydrogen filling station, steam turbine generators, water electrolysis units for hydrogen production, biomass gasification units, green methanol production units, green ammonia production units, and air separation units.
