According to Wuhuan Company, on April 26, 2026, the H2S concentration tower of the low-temperature methanol washing unit in the Shenhua Baotou coal-to-olefins upgrade demonstration project, which was under the company’s EPC contract, was successfully lifted and positioned with precision; the tower was then brought online. Thus, the first lifting operation of a large-scale equipment item using the project’s 4,000-ton crawler crane was completed successfully. The low-temperature methanol washing unit is the first demonstration facility in China to utilize fully domestic technologies; a total of 21 large-scale equipment units at this site require lifting operations. The H2S concentration tower has a diameter of 5.2 meters and a total height of 86.5 meters. The net weight of the equipment is 333 tons; the weight of insulation materials and other auxiliary structures adds another 179 tons, resulting in a total lifting weight of 512 tons. According to a report from Shaanxi Huajian in March, the installation of all pipelines across the site for the Shenhua Baotou coal-to-olefins upgrade demonstration project has been completed, as well as the pre-installation of electrical systems in the substation buildings ； 81.98% of the alignment welding has been completed, 80.44% of the fabrication and installation of the semi-finished equipment is done, 53.51% of the steel structure installation is complete, and 71.63% of the equipment installation is finished. According to Zhengbeifang Net, the Shenhua Baotou coal-to-olefins upgrade demonstration project is scheduled to be handed over in June 2026 and come online by the end of the year. In April 2026, the Shenhua Baotou Coal-to-Olefins Upgrade Demonstration Project in Baotou selected a service provider through the China Tendering and Procurement Network to prepare, evaluate, and file the production commissioning plan. The Shenhua Baotou Coal-to-Olefins Upgrade Demonstration Project plans to use coal as raw material, and through processes such as gasification, shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing, and methanol synthesis, produce 2 million tons of methanol per year as well as 750,000 tons of polyolefins. By being planned and constructed in conjunction with new energy sources, this project aims to achieve deep integration between coal chemical processing and green electricity, green hydrogen, and green oxygen.
