On May 15, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Xuwu New Area issued a public notice regarding the status of acceptance of the environmental impact assessment documents for Jiangsu Hongjing New Materials Co., Ltd.’s polycyclic olefin pilot project. Polycyclic olefins are an important class of organic compounds within the olefin family; their molecules contain two or more ring structures (carbon rings or heterocyclic rings), which are connected to each other either by direct covalent bonds or by bridge bonds, with at least one carbon-carbon double bond present. Polycyclic olefins possess the reactivity of olefins, capable of undergoing reactions such as addition, polymerization, and oxidation; meanwhile, their cyclic structure confers stability, which affects reaction selectivity, molecular spatial configuration, and reaction pathways. Based on the type of rings, polycyclic olefins can be divided into carbon-ring polycyclic olefins (such as polycyclic olefin NB, monomer TCD, dicyclopentadiene) and heterocyclic polycyclic olefins (natural products containing heteroatoms such as O and N, etc.); depending on the way the rings are connected, polycyclic olefins can be classified as fused-ring olefins (rings sharing two adjacent carbon atoms, with representative compounds including monomer TCD and benzocyclobutene), bridged-ring olefins (rings connected through non-adjacent carbon atoms, with representative compounds such as polycyclic olefin NB and dicyclopentadiene), and spiro-ring olefins (rings sharing one carbon atom). Based on a thorough analysis and investigation, Jiangsu Hongjing New Materials Co., Ltd. plans to invest 72.5125 million yuan to reserve land within its factory premises for the construction of the \"Jiangsu Hongjing New Materials Co., Ltd. Polycyclic Olefins Pilot Project\". This project will involve building a pilot plant capable of producing 800 tons per year of polycyclic olefins, as well as another pilot plant capable of producing 800 tons per year of special monomers. This project not only represents a crucial foundation for the large-scale production technologies of these two key monomers, but it will also lay a solid basis for further developing applications of high-end polymers in downstream industries and establishing a competitive position in the global field of high-end materials. The main construction components of the project include: pilot-scale plants, tank areas and associated pump areas, supporting auxiliary facilities, as well as structures such as pipe galleries. The project received a filing document issued by the Economic Development Bureau of the East-West-Central Zone Urban Cooperation Demonstration Area on February 11, 2026 (project code: 2602-320720-04-01-959624, Demonstration Area Filing No. 12). In February, the pilot project on polycyclic olefins by Jiangsu Hongjing New Materials Co., Ltd. was registered. In January 2025, the first public announcement regarding the environmental impact assessment for Jiangsu Hongjing New Materials’ polycycloolefin pilot project was made.
