Completion of Phase 1 of the green hydrogen plant at the Rijeka refinery in Croatia

The Rijeka refinery in Croatia has completed the installation of solar panels, marking its first commercial facility for green hydrogen production. This also fulfills the initial contractual obligations under the co-financing agreement of 15 million euros provided under Croatia’s **Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP)**. This 11-megawatt solar power plant will generate renewable electricity to power the electrolyzers. Before official operation, the factory will undergo final tests and all necessary technical verification procedures. The installation of the electrolyzers is also in progress, with completion expected by the end of 2026. KONČAR is the main contractor for this project, with an investment amount of around 61 million euros. The facility is expected to produce around 1,500 tons of green hydrogen per year, with the first batch of hydrogen planned to be produced in 2027. Once completed, green hydrogen will be supplied to the market, primarily for use in the transportation sector, while also supporting the refining processes at the Rijeka refinery.
