Colleagues, what type of chlorine rotameter is being used, and what is its safety level?
I’ve never used it before; I think I saw it in the sodium hypochlorite preparation unit of the PVC acetylene section. Since the amount of chlorine used is small and the pressure isn’t high, a rotameter is used, and generally there are no safety issues.
Chlorine rotameters have only been seen on moisture analyzers, in very small versions; I haven’t come across them anywhere else. It’s probably because the traffic isn’t that high and it’s not secure.
I’m not very knowledgeable, but I’ve never seen rotameters used in chlorine systems. Rotameters require a transparent glass cover; if that cover is accidentally damaged, it could easily lead to safety accidents. (But in chlorine systems, I have indeed seen glass sight glasses for the chlorine water.)
Mass flow meters require a significant investment
Chlorine is measured and controlled using a float flow meter, which is cost-effective and intuitive. However, current laws and regulations prohibit the use of glass tube float flow meters. To maintain low costs, a metal tube float flow meter made of fluoroplastic can be used. Although metal tube float flowmeters are simple and cost-effective, their accuracy is not particularly high. They can be used to guide and control production, but the measurement errors they produce are quite significant. The reason is that the accuracy of the float flow meter is greatly affected by the pressure difference before and after it. For precision, a mass flow meter can be used directly.
Can a mass flow meter also be used for dry chlorine? We usually choose orifice plate flow meters.
Our unit has two types of flow meters: one is a mass flow meter, and the other is a volume flow meter (orifice plate flow meter) used in synthesis furnaces.
Sure. Orifice plate flowmeters are very old; they have greater errors and are not as good as metal tube float flowmeters.
