How can leaks in buried pipes be located? Are there any professional companies for this?
I’ve heard that there is a device capable of detecting leaks in underground pipelines, but I’ve never seen one.
I have only seen cases of underground leaks in pipes for fresh water and circulating water.
Ultrasonic testing or inspection using pipe robots
Ultrasonic leak detection/listening system. Previously, our project purchased a French system designed specifically for detecting pipeline leaks, which was installed both inside and outside the station. I just checked the information, but unfortunately I couldn’t find it.
If you think the costs of ultrasonic and pipe robot inspections are high, and it does not affect production and there is no urgency to use them, then opt for inspection by cutting and locating. In other words, it involves testing half at a time, finding the midpoint, digging there and making a cut; then judgment is made based on flow rate and pressure, and so on. This method takes longer and requires more labor, with costs estimated to be similar to those of using ultrasound.
What type of buried pipeline is it, and what medium does it transport?
Specialized pipeline inspection equipment: guided wave pipeline inspection device – no excavation required, inspection from outside the pipe; Pipe pigs, internal pipeline inspection. Either method works. Guided wave system available at the Special Inspection Institute ; For pipe pigs, a professional company is needed; I don’t know where to find one.
That’s too general a question. First, it is necessary to determine how deep the underground pipelines are buried and what fluids they contain. If clean water leaks into the soil, the leak location can be found by measuring resistance or using ultrasound. Currently, in long-distance pipelines, a wire is laid along the pipeline during installation, with an electrode installed at regular intervals (similar to the contacts of a boiler water level gauge). In the event of a leak, it is possible to determine the approximate location and extent from the control room or DCS.
