Why is an orifice plate installed for hot water tracing?
For hot water tracing, all tracing pipes from the same station should have similar pressure drops to achieve uniform flow. For this purpose, all heat-traced water supply pipes have connecting flanges downstream of the shut-off valves to enable the installation of flow-limiting orifice plates
Can’t uniform flow be achieved without an orifice plate?

The pipelines in our factory are equipped with hot water for heating; regarding this issue, I checked during the winter of 2013 and found that there were cases where the heating system wasn’t working properly, as well as situations where the water supply and drainage pipes were connected to the same pipe. I reported these issues to the relevant departments. No one is paying attention... Fortunately, there have been two mild winters in a row.
Our company has not yet started production, so it’s hard to say for sure
The orifice plate is used either to limit flow or to reduce pressure; I think the possibility of it being used for flow limitation is higher
The purpose of installing an orifice plate with hot water heating may be to ensure a uniform flow rate, as well as to increase local flow velocity and pressure. The pressures before and after the orifice plate are different, as are the flow velocities.
