As an important safety accessory for pressure vessels and pressure pipelines, safety valves come with bypass systems in their design. At my previous workplace, I encountered safety valves that had such bypass systems; the bypass manual valves were closed during normal operation and sealed with lead seals. When discussing this with colleagues at my current workplace, I was told that such a design is quite rare. What is the purpose of including a bypass system in the design of safety valves?
