Regarding the temperature in a distillation column, it is generally understood that the temperature decreases gradually from the bottom of the column to the top. In an ethanol distillation training setup, the temperature inside the tower is currently 5–6°C lower than the temperature at the top of the tower. What could be the reason for this? Thank you~~
The feed rate affects the temperature distribution within the tower. Under ideal conditions, the feed temperature is the same as the temperature of the feed plate; however, in practice this may not be the case, which will alter the temperature distribution curve. Take a look to see if it’s this reason.
Is the temperature display location in the middle your feed position? It can have a slight impact sometimes! !
Well, it’s the feed position~ When the unit has just started operating and there is no continuous feeding, that is, when no feed is supplied, the temperature in the middle section becomes lower than the temperature at the top of the tower.
Even in the absence of feed, the temperature inside the tower remains lower than the temperature at the top of the tower~
If there is nothing wrong with the temperature measuring instruments, it is likely that the temperature measurement point in the middle is located near the feed inlet, which results in a temperature that is lower than that at the top of the tower……
When there is no feed, consider the location of the reflux……

The installation location of your thermometer might have some impact; is it the gas phase temperature on the side? And at the middle section, does the feed influence it?
