Our liquefied natural gas pipeline contains 260,000 ppm of chlorine, and material engineers do not recommend the use of stainless steel. The pipeline material is A350 LF2 carbon steel; the transmitter diaphragm is intended to be made of Hastelloy, while the ball and seat of the ball valve are made of A350 LF2 with a hardened coating. In such cases, would it not be better to use carbon steel rather than stainless steel?
What kind of chlorine is it? If it’s not a chloride, then it’s unnecessary. But the insurance for stainless steel?
