In a dry gas hydrogen production plant, if the desalinated water supply is interrupted for 15 to 30 minutes, can fresh water be used as a substitute for the water fed into the deaerator?
It’s possible for a short period; once normal operation is restored, increase the drain rate from the drum, carry out continuous drainage, and remove the water that does not meet the standards. Sample to confirm that the quality of the drum water is satisfactory.
In typical hydrogen production plants, the volume of the deaerator should be larger than that of the steam drum. When the supply of demineralized water is interrupted for a few dozen minutes, it is not necessary to supply fresh water to the deaerator; the water stored in the deaerator is sufficient to meet the demands. If the supply of demineralized water is interrupted for more than half an hour, then it may be appropriate to supply fresh water to the deaerator. Once normal operation is resumed, the drain rate from the steam drum should be increased appropriately to remove the contaminated water. Sample to verify the quality of the drum boiler water until it meets the standards.
Using fresh water is not as good as using acidified water that has been stripped; generally, such an emergency pipeline is available
