Some high-pressure heat exchangers have bases in the form of guide rails – what are the advantages of that?
Is there a guide rail on one end? I’ve seen that before; it’s said to be used to counteract expansion
Those with guides are high-pressure heat exchangers for high and low pressures; the guides are used to extract the tube bundle.
Can’t it be pulled out without guide rails?
I’ve never seen a basic guide rail structure like this; could the original poster send some pictures? That way, everyone can understand what it’s used for.

High-pressure heat exchanger tube boxes generally use threaded locking rings or diaphragm structures, and due to the high pressure, their size and structural weight are such that it is not possible to remove the tube bundle using a tube puller as in ordinary heat exchangers. The pressure in the shell side is generally not high, so the shell design is much lighter, making it easier to remove the shell directly.
