Layout of small springs in coke ovens

I have encountered coke ovens before: 4.3m coke ovens use five-wire small springs, 6m coke ovens use seven-wire small springs, and 6.25m coke ovens use ten-wire small springs. Now I’ve seen a 4.3m coke oven that uses eight-wire small springs – why is there such a variety? What determines the number of small springs arranged on each furnace column?
