The PhD- level test for hydrogenated refined gasoline failed; the sulfur content was found to be 20 ppm, of which 8 ppm was thiol sulfur. What other types of sulfur might be present?
The Doctor test is a qualitative analysis, while the sulfur content is a quantitative analysis. Thiethers, carbonyl sulfides, and the like are relatively difficult to remove.
Doctoral tests can only provide a qualitative assessment, and they are not accurate at present; levels of light thiols below 10 ppm are considered acceptable, while levels of heavy thiols above 5 ppm may result in failure to meet the standards. Sulfur in gasoline mainly includes thiols, thioethers, disulfides, and thiophenes.
The sulfur content is not high, but the reason for failing the test is the presence of heavy thiols; we generally carry out hydrogenation purification followed by alkaline washing to remove these heavy thiols

The Drabek test can determine the content of organic sulfur in oils, particularly thiol compounds. However, other forms of organic sulfur present in oils, such as sulfides and thiophenes, are more difficult to remove through hydrogenation; they are harder to eliminate than thioles, and this has an impact on the results obtained by the Drabek test
It mainly contains thiol-type sulfur; thiophene-type sulfides have virtually no effect on the Drude experiment. .
