I work for a water company, and I’ve encountered a problem recently. . The pressure in a certain area is too low. . By making calculations and ruling out other factors, it is suspected that a certain valve was not fully opened. . . But the valve is very old. Its opening degree cannot be determined. . Often, when it can’t be rotated, it’s assumed to be fully open. . But after taking it apart, it was found that it hadn’t actually been fully opened. . Is there any device that can measure the opening degree of a butterfly valve?
Stop struggling with it; change it instead. It’s not worth much.
If the opening pointer is not visible, you can contact the mechanic to make a scale plate. Or simply remove the cover to directly observe the gears and determine the opening degree. It’s likely to dislodge the valve if it can’t rotate.
By directly removing the dial, one can see the position of the pins inside. It can be determined by referring to the installation positions of the valve body and the pipes.
1. It is recommended to replace the valve; a valve with a smaller diameter does not cost much. 2. It is suggested to add an adjustable positioner, which can use input and output signals to indicate the degree of opening of the valve
New valves usually come with dials. Since your valves are in this condition, it’s time to replace them with new ones. To avoid more serious problems, it’s better to consider doing so
1. In the case of manual butterfly valves, there are indicator plates or pointers on top of the worm gear head. 2. For pneumatic or electric butterfly valves, the valve position is generally determined by feedback from a positioner.
Replace it with an electric or pneumatic version; for the pneumatic type, use a positioner so that there is a feedback signal available, allowing knowledge of the valve’s opening degree
But it is common for the embolus to break. . You turned. . But the butterfly valve disc didn’t move. Replacing the valve is too costly. If so many valves have problems and need to be replaced. . Well then.....
A malfunction in one or two valves may be due to a combination of quality issues and usage problems. But if many valves fail, it is more likely that the valves are not used properly or have not been maintained for a long time. Equipment managers need to carry out more staff training and foundational work.
