Why does a high pH cause quench water emulsification? What is the mechanism? Seeking advice
It’s not water emulsification; rather, it’s oil being emulsified into water.
When the pH value of water is high, it increases the degree of ionization of the anions of some acidic components formed during the cleavage process, giving them surfactant-like properties; this leads to the emulsification of oil and water. The pH value of the quench water should be properly controlled, and no surface-active water treatment agents should be added to it.
So if the pH is too low, what is the emulsification mechanism?
