Help: Factories often use activated carbon to pre-treat dye wastewater. Once it becomes ineffective (or its effectiveness declines), how should the activated carbon be disposed of? Can it be recycled (how to do it?). PS: 1. The wastewater is generated during the production of some acid dyes and solvent dyes; it mainly contains sulfate ions, and may also include aniline derivatives, anthraquinones, chlorine, and solid impurities. 2. The wastewater first undergoes a Fenton reaction, followed by inclined plate sedimentation, and finally treated with activated carbon. Only then is it sent to the anaerobic and aerobic tanks for treatment.

It can only be treated as hazardous waste; recycling it is not cost-effective.
After using this dye solvent treatment, the activated carbon must be recovered and processed again in a furnace, but its performance will be significantly reduced. It is cost-effective to replace the activated carbon again.
Considering the actual conditions at the site mentioned by the poster, activated carbon can be treated by adding water and aeration, followed by drying. Use acid-base regeneration or biological regeneration, or wash repeatedly with 5% dilute acid. Furthermore, there are now some products available as activated carbon regenerants; have you considered those designed specifically for printing and dyeing wastewater?

One of the experiments being conducted at present is to clean used activated carbon, expose it to water and air, and then dry it. However, after drying, some of the activated carbon turns grayish-white, and some of it will float to the surface when used again. (Those that have risen up are probably already inactivated.)

When you bought the activated carbon, didn’t you ask the manufacturer to give you information or guidance? What a waste of use. For powdered activated carbon, there’s no need to use it or to recycle it; it can be disposed of in whatever manner is appropriate. At present, it should be treated as solid waste, and incineration seems to be the best option. For granular activated carbon, when you purchase it, the manufacturer should first ask you how you plan to use it before selling you the appropriate activated carbon. Since different granular activated carbons have different activation methods, you can only activate them using the corresponding method. Otherwise, it’s a waste. For example, if it’s activated carbon that was originally regenerated thermally, trying to regenerate it using a solvent is ineffective. Similarly, activated carbon that is originally meant for solvent regeneration – using thermal regeneration on it is a form of waste and squandering. Figure out your own initial choice first before anything else

I just finished a project involving activated carbon these days; they specialize in collecting used carbon for reuse. It seems their method of processing it involves using high-temperature boilers, but this also generates a significant amount of wastewater. I think it would be very difficult for you to handle it on your own
